MTC Presents A Christmas Story, The Musical

Morgantown Theatre Company is proud to present A Christmas Story, The Musical!  Opening night is Saturday, December 2nd, with shows on Sunday, December 3rd, Friday, December 8th, Saturday, December 9th, and Sunday, December 10th.

Book by Joseph Robinette. Music and lyrics by Benj Pask and Justin Paul. Based on the motion picture A Christmas Story distributed by Warner Bros, written by Jean Shepherd, Leigh Brown and Bob Clark, and
on the book In God We Trust: All Other Pay Cash by Jean Shepherd.

“Set in the 1940s in the fictional town of Homan, Indiana, the musical follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker and his quest for the Holy Grail of Christmas gifts – an Official Red Ryder carbine action 200-shot Range Model air rifle. Rebuffed at every turn with a similar echoing response, Ralphie plots numerous schemes to achieve his desperate desire for the coveted BB gun.”

“All the iconic scenes from the movie are here: Ralphie’s friend, Flick, getting his tongue stuck to the flagpole; his brother Randy, getting dressed in his snowsuit; the bullies, Farkus and Dill; the leg lamp award; the bunny suit; the Chinese restaurant; Christmas dinner; and many others. The delightfully versatile score ranges from gentle ballads to show-stopping full-ensemble numbers such as “Ralphie to the Rescue”, “A Major Award”, “Sticky Situation”, “Up on Santa’s Lap”, “Somewhere Hovering Over Indiana” and the inevitable “You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out!””

A Christmas Story, The Musical will bring an exciting new dimension to those who have seen the movie and will certainly stand on its own for those who haven’t.

Shrek The Musical Comes to A Close

Morgantown Theatre Company’s presentation of Shrek the Musical came to a close with a highly successful three day run!  Our cast, crew, parents and volunteers say “THANK YOU!” to all of our patrons, our sponsors, and the community of Morgantown for coming out and supporting this wonderful show!

Morgantown Theatre Company is proud to present Shrek the Musical!  Opening night is Friday, October 27th, with shows on Saturday, October 28th and Sunday, October 29th.

Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek The Musical is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure, featuring all new songs from Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie; Caroline, or Change) and a sidesplitting book by David Lindsay-Abaire. Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage and proves there’s more to the story than meets the ears.

“Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek….” And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand… and his name is Shrek.

Shrek presents a treasure trove of creative opportunities, including costumes, sets, puppets (there is a fire-breathing dragon after all) and more! Irreverently fun for the whole family, Shrek proves that beauty is truly in the eye of the ogre.

FALL ACTING PROGRAMS AND CLASSES – Registration Closed

The acting programs at MTC range from the semester-long Main Stage Productions for students grades 2-12 to weekly Fun with Drama classes for grades K-3 and a Summer Camp for children ages 7-12. Opportunities range from public performances, to directing, lighting, sound and stage management. MTC takes pride in creating a positive, inclusive learning environment. Full and partial scholarships are offered to many children and payment plans are offered for all classes/programs.

Main Stage Productions (Grades 2-12*)

Main Stage Productions members gain real, practical theatrical experience as they refine their acting, singing, dancing, and behind-the-scenes talents during several months of rehearsals culminating in a weekend of performances on the Metropolitan stage or another venue in the Morgantown area. Every student is part of the production with direct on-stage experience. Students learn teamwork, commitment, responsibility, and accountability by seeing a large project through from beginning to end. MTC students undertake intensive preparation for plays and musicals, which requires great dedication and diligence – but throughout the process they have fun and develop lasting friendships with children throughout the area. There are typically two productions a semester and each child is assigned to one.

Fun with Drama (Grades K-1 and 2-3)

An introduction to the craft of acting with hands-on experience in creative dramatics. Children receive a foundation in the process of acting through a variety of beginning acting exercises and through the rehearsals of a skit culminating in the performance at the end of program.

The cost for grades K-1 class is $100. Grades 2-3 is $125. The class will run approximately 10 weeks.

James and the Giant Peach Jr.

Based on one of Roald Dahl’s most poignantly quirky stories, Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach Jr. is a brand new take on this “masterpeach” of a tale. Featuring a wickedly tuneful score and a witty and charming book, this adventurous musical about courage and self-discovery is destined to be a classic.

When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that grows a tremendous peach, rolls into the ocean and launches a journey of enormous proportions. James befriends a collection of singing insects that ride the giant piece of fruit across the ocean, facing hunger, sharks and plenty of disagreements along the way.

Showtimes:

December 2, 7:00pm

December 3, 12:30pm and 4:00pm

December 4, 3:00pm
